RBI eases cash reserve rules to ease liquidity condition of banks
• The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) eased mandatory cash requirement rules for banks to provide “durable liquidity” to the economy.
• Banks could 'carve out' up to 15 percent of holdings under the statutory liquidity reserves to meet their liquidity coverage ratio (LCR) requirements as compared to 13 percent now.
• The relaxation in statutory liquidity ratio (SLR) requirement is with effect from October 1, 2018.This will supplement the ability of individual banks to avail of liquidity, from the repo markets.
• RBI said that it stands ready to meet the durable liquidity requirements of the system through various available instruments.

Committed to 100 percent deployment of VVPATs at all polling stations in 2019 General elections: EC
• The Election Commission is committed to 100 percent deployment of VVPATs at all polling stations in the 2019 General election, as well as bye-elections to the Lok Sabha and State Legislative Assemblies.
• The Commission said the supply of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and the Voter-verifiable paper audit trails (VVPTs) is on track and it is not a matter of concern.
• In order to meet the requirement of 100 percent VVPATs for all polling stations for the upcoming Lok Sabha Election in 2019, it has placed an order of 17 lakh 45 thousand VVPATs to Bharat Electronics Limited, Bangalore and Electronics Corporation of India Limited, Hyderabad.
• Till now, nine lakh 45 thousand units have been produced by the PSUs. Both PSUs have assured the Commission that the remaining eight lakh VVPAT units will be manufactured and supplied before the end of November 2018.
I&B ministry constitutes FTII society 
• The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting constituted the Society of Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) Pune.
• Under the category PERSONS OF EMINENCE, the following have been nominated as Members of FTII Society: Yesudas, Anup Jalota, Kangana Ranaut, Arvind Swami, Brijendra Pal Singh, Divya Dutta, Satish Kaushik, and Archana Rakesh Singh.
• Under the category ALUMNI OF FTII, the following have been nominated as Members of FTII Society: Rajkumar Hirani, Vidhu Vinod Chopra, Danny Denzongpa, and Mahesh Aney.
• Under the category EXPERTS REPRESENTING THE ACTIVITIES OF THE CENTRAL GOVERNMENT, the following have been nominated as Members of FTII Society: N Sarvana, Ravish Kumar, and Chaitanya Prasad.
• Eminent actor Shri Anupam Kher is President of FTII Society and Chairman of FTII Governing Council.
• The tenure of the non-official members including the President will be for the block of 3 years.
Astra BVR Air-to-Air Missile successfully flight-tested
• Astra, the indigenously developed Beyond Visual Range Air-to-Air Missile (BVRAAM), was successfully test fired by the Indian Air Force from Su-30 aircraft from Air Force Station, Kalaikunda.
• The missile successfully engaged a manoeuvring target with high precision meeting the mission objectives.
• In the series of trials held to date, Astra has been launched in the complete Su-30 flight envelope.
• The flight test assumes significance as it was part of the series of final pre-induction trials.
• Astra is the best in class weapon system and has undergone more than twenty developmental trials.
Air pollution control device WAYU inaugurated in New Delhi
• Union Minister for Science & Technology and Earth Sciences and Environment Dr. Harsh Vardhan inaugurated air pollution control device WAYU (Wind Augmentation PurifYing Unit) for traffic junctions at ITO intersection and Mukarba Chowk in New Delhi.
• The device aims at tackling toxicity in air by sucking in particulate matter and release fresh air.
• WAYU has been indigenously developed by Council of Scientific and Industrial Research – National Environmental Engineering Research Institute (CSIR-NEERI) as part of Technology Development Project being funded by Department of Science and Technology.
• Its prototype has capacity to purify air in area of 500 meter square.
• It consumes only half unit of electricity for 10 hours of running and has maintenance cost of only Rs. 1500 per month.
4 Northern states, 2 UTs agree to fix uniform tax rates on petroleum products
• Northern states of Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh and Union Territories of Delhi and Chandigarh have agreed to fix uniform tax rates on petroleum products, amid rising fuel prices.
• Besides, these states and UTs also have agreed to bring uniformity in taxes on liquor and registration of vehicles and transport permit.
• This decision will lead to increase in government revenue and at the same time curb black marketing.
• It will also help to curb diversion of trade.
Parakram Parv to be celebrated to showcase the courage, valour and sacrifice of Indian Armed Forces
• Parakram Parv will be celebrated from September 27-30, 2018 to showcase the courage, valour and sacrifice of Indian Armed Forces.
• Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will commemorate the inauguration of the Parakram Parv and also interact with children.
• The programme will start with bugle call and  thereafter, movies and photographs depicting valour and courage of the Armed Forces will be shown.
• Visitors will get the opportunity to see captured weapons used by terrorists that have been brought from Jammu and Kashmir.
• Noted singers are scheduled to perform at the venue apart from the Military band.
• The General public will be encouraged to take selfies at all venues, including India Gate and post them on the social networking sites with #ParakramParv.
